Kevin Durant Trade Talks: Suns Field Offers, But No Clear Leader Emerges

The Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are widely considered potential contenders in the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes.

Durant, 37, remains under contract with the Phoenix Suns. At the NBA trade deadline in February, Suns owner Mat Ishbia reportedly reassured Durant that he would not be moved. Still, league sources say Phoenix received and entertained multiple inquiries.

According to a Suns source, the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, and Washington Wizards all reached out. The Wizards, notably, offered a package centered around Kyle Kuzma and draft picks—an offer Phoenix ultimately declined, reaffirming Durant’s place in the Valley… at least for now.

Houston’s involvement stands out. The Rockets not only have the draft capital and young talent to make a serious run, but they also boast strong personal and professional ties to Durant. His close friend Royal Ivey is on Houston’s coaching staff, and head coach Ime Udoka previously worked with Durant during their time with the Brooklyn Nets.

While I’m told the San Antonio Spurs had some level of interest, they’re currently focused on building out their core around franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama.

On the Suns’ side of things, here’s what I’m hearing:

“There is no clear leader,” a Suns source with knowledge tells me. “The Texas teams are out unless they put real pieces on the table.”

The same source adds that San Antonio did make a call, offering the No. 14 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

“Never went below 14th pick. Second pick hasn’t been offered,” they clarified.

And in a telling detail about Phoenix’s internal dynamics, the source said: “The person who wanted to trade Kevin Durant [at the trade deadline] no longer works for the Phoenix Suns.”
